Farewell the Handyman
Breakups are always hard, but saying farewell to “the Handyman” Alan Wong really takes the biscuit. Alan originally joined the lab as an honour student, before moving on to complete a PhD in the lab. With a mind-blowing 14 papers published during his time in the Burns Lab, Alan has established himself on the world stage as a microbial ecologist. Alan’s work has been recognised by a Dean’s Award for Outstanding PhD Thesis and a Faculty of Science Research Excellence Award. Alan was not only an outstanding and high achieving PhD student in the lab, but has been selfless in helping to mentor and train the next generation of students to follow in his footsteps. Although it’s sad to say goodbye to Alan, we know that he will go on to make waves in the next stages of his career. Although we have lost an amazing student, we have gained an outstanding international colleague. Thank you Alan for everything you have brought to the Burns Lab 🤔
