Professor Tony Larkum

Unknown-1.png

Tony holds an adjunct Professor position in the Climate Change Cluster at UTS and has been collaborating with the Burns lab for the last few years. The main focus is on identifying and characterising novel chlorophyll producing microorganisms – primarily those possessing pigments that can absorb in the near and far infrared. These discoveries are expanding our understanding of the range of niches in which photosynthesis can occur. Tony has worked with several students in the Burns lab focusing on characterising these novel pigment producers in the mats and stromatolites of Shark Bay. Tony also has interests in understanding the phenomenon of mass coral bleaching, as well as using microalgae in biofuel research.
